Welcome to the Stash Game - October Edition

The Stash Game is a chance for you to use your materials and save money by not buying any more...for a whole entire month! Do you have a pile of fabric that used to be a closet/room/corner/piece of furniture? Then the Stash Game is for you!

How does it work? You gain points for using up your fabric yardage and recyclables, as well as posting pics and participating in certain events. You lose points for buying fabric and fabric items intended for upcycling. It's that simple! And I'm working on some exciting prizes for the winners. Do you want to donate a prize? Just drop me a note!  Of course it also counts towards your total points if you make it!

How to Enter:

Post a comment here with your email address (or if you already have a google account I can find it with just your screen name) anytime before the end of October.

I'll start a post for you and add you to the authors of this blog. Check your email because you will soon recieve an invitation to write for this blog! Every day that you make something, add it and it's point value to your post. At the end of the month you will have a running tally in the post. Does that make sense? If not, ask a question under the second post entitled "Questions"! And feel free to check out my list as an example.

I'll start a daily post starting on October 1st. If you'd like to send in a picture to be counted as an extra point for that item, please upload it to the daily post!

The Rules:

All items are for personal use only. This includes items for you and your family, giftables, and donations. You may not count items intended for sale. Your items do not have to be clothes! They can be toys, household items, etc. BUT since the starting members of this edition of the Stash Game are visiting from the Lil Blue Boo Patterns Page, you will get an extra point for making something from a LBB pattern. And an extra bonus point if you post it on the LBB patterns page. And another additional point if you are participating in the LBB Dress Swap!

+8 for each yard of fabric used (includes batting and interfacing as well)
+4 for each yard of fabric donated
+8 for each XXL+ shirt used, +6 for XL, +4 for L and M, +2 for S and children's sized shirts
all other fabrics such as sheets and curtains, approximate yardage as 44" by 36" = 1 yard
+1 for each type of embellishment added (applique, painting, dying, etc)
+1 for items donated to charity
+1 for items constructed from LBB patterns
+1 for posting a pic of an LBB item on the LBB patterns page
+1 for items participating in the LBB Dress Swap
+1 for posting a pic of a non LBB item on the daily post ( where we can ooooh and ahhhh over each others creations and pity each other when a humongous fabric sale comes to your area)

-8 points for each yard of fabric purchased
-4 points for each shirt you purchase for the purpose of upcycling
-100 points for getting someone else in the Stash Game to donate their fabric to you

*special note: For the sake of simplicity, notions used for structure such as thread, zippers, snaps, buttons, etc will not be counted for or against you this round. Exceptions are items such as embroidery thread for embellishment, which will count as a point for you.

  1. Ok count me in! I'm overflowing with fabric and shirts to upcycle and I need some motivation to sew for my kids since I've been sewing so much for all of these craft shows. :)

  2. I'm in as well! Sounds like fun and I've hoarded enough fabric in the last month or so (yikes) for various projects! I guess I should get a move on purchasing a serger...

  3. October is crazy-busy at work, and I'll be out of town for 2 business trips, but maybe this will help! I think it would be fun to post a hoarding photo of our 'start' pile, but I won't show you mine until you show me yours!
