Mini-Stash (well, kind of...)

Fellow stashers, I'd like to introduce you to my mini-stash... Although, I firmly believe the small space my stash takes up is deceptive as laundry baskets seem to follow that "its much bigger on the inside, than the outside" Mary Poppins' carpetbag-like trait.

Now, the sad part is that I've amassed this amount of fabric since the middle of August. I had planned on sewing more than I have, but real-life intervened in a dramatic fashion with busy weeks (boo 10-12 hour work-days!) and even busier weekends. I'm hoping this game will give me the motivation to work my way through this collection!

Oh, and it might be a few days before I begin sewing. I enjoy sewing with my machine, but I've decided to go serger for this. In the mean time, I'm going to start cutting pieces! I consider that the least enjoyable portion of sewing anyway.

So I asked the kids how many dresses, skirts, shirts, hoodies, etc. they think I can make out of my laundry basket of goodies. Maya answered "one hundred"... And Lucas said the same. Sadly, they might be right! I guess the only way to find out is to start cutting! What do you think?

October 2nd Sew and Tell

Welcome to the second day. Any projects planned for today? I added my hat to my stash pic. You can add a pic in anytime, doesn't have to be the day you sew the item. Any questions about points? Have a great weekend everybody!

Today I meant to sew up my DS's rain coat, but realized the lining wasn't prewashed yet. So...I used up some flannel to make napkins. DS brings cloth napkins to school and gets really embaressed when he has to bring the girly pink polka dot ones...you know, when Mama forgets to do the kitchen wash ;)
I think he'll like these better...

btw, I'm not going to count this pic as 12 since it's all one fabric and an easy project, but if you take a pic of two different things you've made (ie different fabrics, a bedroom or living room collection, etc) you can count one point per item in your pic.

Most embarrassing stash photo...

Don't call the producers of "Hoarders". This is a spare bedroom that is being taken over. At one time there was organization, but then I throw everything everywhere looking for one thing from an earlier thrift visit!

Probably the most ironic is that behind those plastic bins is a dresser. That is empty. But I can't get to it!

This is the other part of the room, a nice window bench. The dark brown piece of furniture is an antique sewing cabinet I got for $18, machine included!! I used the machine a few times last year, but it has a side-loading bobbin, which I find difficult, so I just use it to hold other stuff! I also start a collection of empty glass jars to use for canning cranberry chutney as Christmas gifts. TJ Maxx has super huge wonderful reusable shopping bags that I've started to use for storage too. The pink/black herringbone pillow I got at K-mart on super clearance for about $4. One went to my cousin for her 40th birthday with a sewn pillow slipcover. This is the one I'll probably use for my mom's gifts.

Yippe for October 1!

Yea, I actually did something tonight! I got a sewing class for my birthday this summer, and the project was a zippered slipcover for a square pillow. I used a tapestry fabric that matches this loveseat. But I also spied a Michael Miller Halloween print (the orange & black) and had to have it. Much more pricey per yard than I'm used to, so I bought cheap polkadot for the back to get 2 pillows from the 1/2 yard cut. Now I'll always have a seasonal pillow for the couch!

The larger Day of the Dead is for my college roommate who now lives in Colorado (and is married to my ex-boyfriend -- long story!). Her birthday is later this month. Now I have to go figure out the points, roughly 1/2 yard each...
So far this is my to-do list:
Art smock for niece's birthday, dress for same niece's birthday
Purse & pillow for college roommate's birthday
Purse for friend's birthday
Daughter's & son's halloween costumes
Pillowcases for daughter to give at 2 upcoming birthday parties
Crinkle-squares for about 7 new babies
Swap dress
blanket & Chicago Bears wear for newest godchild
Halloween & thanksgiving theme pillow slipcases for me
Fall theme pillow slipcase for my mom
Winebags for holiday hostess gifts
and if I have time, twirl skirts for every little girl I know!!

October 1st Sew and Tell

Hello All! So are you planning any sewing for today? I made a last minute dash to Hancock's yesterday to get materials for my DD's costume. Did you do any last minute fabric shopping?

If you make anything today and take a pic, we'd love to see it here!

Lisa had a great idea. Does anyone want to share pics of their fabric stashes? Kind of like a "Before pic"?

Here's mine...just so that you don't feel bad :)

And the pile of leftover after projects that need to be trimmed and folded *blush*

Here's my Newsboy Cap for Twinkle Toes. I made it to match her coat I made last week.

Happy sewing! much ♥
